About us

The company was founded by N. L. Madsen in 1969, when the private garage was converted into a refrigeration workshop. After a number of years spent repairing refrigeration & freezing systems as well as ice machines on ships and for businesses in Hirtshals, a larger workshop became necessary, and therefore N.L. Madsen relocated to Havnegade in Hirtshals. In 1986, the company moved into its current premises at Læssevej 18 in Hirtshals, as the need for space had increased once again.
In 1989, N. L. Madsen retired after 20 busy years as self-employed. In connection with this, the company was taken over by his son, Ivan Lund Madsen. The firm’s original name, Hirtshals Fryse- og Køleteknik, was changed to the nickname that friends, customers, and employees had long since given the company’s founder: Kølemadsen.
Today, the company has 18 skilled employees, and the third generation of the Madsen family, Jens Lund Madsen, has joined as owner.

Goals and future development

Kølemadsen has continuously adapted to the authorities’ requirements for refrigeration & freezing systems, which has led to significant development within the company, particularly in our professional knowledge. While Kølemadsen previously worked exclusively with “freon” and NH3, we now also deliver solutions using eco-friendly CO2 and Propane refrigerants, which are expected to be the refrigerants of the future. With our skilled technicians and managers, we can solve any refrigeration problem on water, land, or in the air.
We WANT to be the customer’s preferred refrigeration supplier, and we will constantly strive—through advice and problem-solving—to provide our customers with “value for money”.
